In order to qualify for benefits under New Jersey's workers' compensation program, an individual's injuries must be directly related to his or her work. An employee can receive workers' compensation benefits if a pre-existing condition has been aggravated, exacerbated or accelerated by a workplace accident or from cumulative stress related to work.

Under New Jersey's workers' compensation law, an employee injured on the job may recover compensation for:

All reasonable and necessary medical treatment

Temporary total benefits if a worker is disabled for seven days or more (payable at 70 percent of your gross weekly wage for a maximum of 400 weeks)

Permanent partial disability benefits (PPD) if you have a permanent disability that is directly related to work. The amount you receive is based on the extent of your disability.

Permanent total disability benefits if your work-related injury or illness has left you permanently disabled and unable to return to work. You may receive up to 70 percent of your gross average weekly pay for as much as 450 weeks. Permanent total disability benefits can be extended beyond 450 weeks if you are still unable to work.

In addition, dependents of an employee who dies as a result of a work-related accident or illness may receive death benefits.
